Western Cape police arrested a suspect who was found to be in possession of a semi-automatic weapon.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said the man was arrested in Bishop Lavis on Thursday evening.
He said members had responded to a shooting incident in Deer Road when they spotted the suspect getting into an LDV and speeding off.
"The police members tried to stop the vehicle but the driver picked up speed upon which a high-speed chase ensued.
"The vehicle was brought to a halt, with the suspect being arrested by the members as he disembarked the vehicle," Twigg said.
He said the firearm and ammunition were seized during a subsequent search of the vehicle.
Twigg said the adult male faces a charge of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ court on Monday.
