The Multiple award-winning and controversial South African film Inxeba (the Wound) will be back in cinemas this Friday.
The Film's X-rating was withdrawn following a High Court ruling in Pretoria on Tuesday morning.
The Film and Publication Board initially gave the film an age restriction of 16 but was challenged by traditional leaders when the movie was released in South African cinemas.
Movie houses in Port Elizabeth and East London cancelled the screening of the film in February following several protests
The High Court meanwhile postponed the matter until the 28th of March to allow relevant parties to file support affidavits
The movie, which has won 19 international awards, deals with a Xhosa man's right to passage as he goes into the bush to be circumcised and has been given an age restriction of 16. The Film and Publication Board rated the film in June 2017 already, but have now received several complaints, asking for the rating to be increased to 18.
Those complaining claim the film is insensitive and distorting the Xhosa culture.
Producer, Cait Pansegrouw, earlier told Algoa FM News that they were extremely disappointed in the way some South Africans have reacted to the film.
She says due to the film's controversial theme it took them four years to get the necessary funding to go ahead.
Pansegrouw says the film was eventually financed by four different countries including South Africa, France, the Netherlands and Germany.
Inxeba was shortlisted this year for the 2018 Acadamy Awards, in the Best Foreign Film Category.
It has since also been nominated for eight SAFTA awards.
