The animal welfare organisation NSPCA, has halted the slaughter of fully conscious young crocodiles at the Kroonkrok Farm outside Rustenburg in North West.
Juvenile crocodiles at the farm are being killed to provide skins for the fashion industry.
NSPCA spokesperson, Nazareth Appalsamy, says pre-stunning is required to render animals unconscious before the slaughter procedure starts. He says visual footage taken at the scene shows that the juvenile crocodiles were not pre-stunned, and remained fully conscious during this "pithing" process.
He says they will be laying criminal charges against the crocodile farm.
