The Department of Health has stressed it's important to remember that the Covid-19 pandemic is not over.
The World Health Organisation on Friday declared it was no longer a global public health emergency.
South Africa's health spokesperson Foster Mohale says the move by the WHO was due to the number of cases now being far lower than at the height of the pandemic.
Mohale says they will continue to recommend vaccinations and Covid-19 testing to the public.
"People are still testing positive even though the numbers are relatively low and as the department, we have enough vaccine doses.
"We continue to offer those doses, especially for those who feel they are vulnerable like your elderly, those people living with comorbidities like HIV, TB, and diabetes precisely because their immune system is compromised.
"So we continue to receive requests from those people who want to get booster doses to continue to protect themselves against this pandemic."
