The number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa now stands at 554 as more tests returned positive overnight.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says, however, that five people who first tested positive, were reverted back to a negative
At the moment Gauteng has the most cases with 302, mostly in Johannesburg, whilst the Eastern Cape still only has two.
Mkhize says most of the patients with Covid-19 are doing well and only two are currently being treated in ICU at private hospitals.
He says just because we are now going to be in lockdown it does not mean that we need to stop washing our hands and coughing into our tissues.
He says the virus can still spread between people but that it's of the utmost importance to reduce our movements.
Mkhize says millions of people who would've otherwise made use of public transport and possibly spread the virus will now be at home.
