COVID-19 in SA: 51 cases confirmed


The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in South Africa has risen to 51.

The Department of International Relations announced on Sunday that an additional 13 cases were recorded since Saturday's announcement - which raised the total infections in the country to 38.

The announcement came as President Cyril Ramaphosa called an emergency cabinet meeting for Sunday to discuss a way to explore ways of intensifying the country’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement, the department confirmed that 7 new cases had been reported in Gauteng, 5 in the Western Cape and 1 in KwaZulu Natal since Saturday- bringing the total number of positive infections in the country to 51.

No cases have yet been reported in the Eastern Cape.
