Western Cape police arrested a couple in Melkbostrand on charges of rape and human trafficking.
The husband and wife, aged 46, and 38, were arrested on Thursday by a multi-disciplinary team that included officials from the Departments of Social Development and Health.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, said the arrests came after the Hawks were alerted during October about a victim who had managed to escape from her alleged traffickers.
He said the investigation revealed the woman was offered "an employment contract" to work for the couple when they travelled overseas.
However, he said it is alleged that “not long after her arrival”, the woman was allegedly raped and sexually exploited by her employers.
“Various role players, including other government departments and non- governmental organisations were involved in the investigation of this matter.
“The suspects' address was subsequently identified in Melkbosstrand,” Vukubi said.
He said the couple’s two young children were removed and placed in the care of social workers from the Department of Social Development and will be taken for medical examination.
The husband and wife will make their first appearance in the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Friday.
