The Hawks in Gauteng executed a seizure warrant at two shopping outlets in Johannesburg where counterfeit toys worth R850 000 were confiscated.
Spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale says electronic games, equipment and computer games bearing the LEGO® trademark were seized.
She says the premises at the Oriental City in Centurion and the Queens Corner Shopping Centre in Queenswood had been on their radar for quite some time.
The Hawks went on a fact-finding mission and involved members from the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law and brand representatives from LEGO®.
Colonel Mogale says all the goods on display were confiscated and more units were found stacked in different isles.
She says criminal and civil proceedings will be instituted against the businesses and their respective owners.
