Counterfeit goods worth R400 million seized in Durban port.

SAPS

Kwazulu Natal police have seized a large consignment of counterfeit goods after vigilant officers followed up on suspicious information about a storage container.

SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the goods, valued at an estimated R400m, included popular brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, and Zara, as well as Springbok jerseys.

He said the container arrived through the Port of Durban "from an Asian country."

Netshiunda said "vigilant' officers had "positively identified a vessel and stopped a container which was carrying counterfeit goods at the Durban Harbour."

"Officers were performing their routine risk profiling when they identified a cold storage container whose details looked suspicious."

"The container was correctly searched at a depot in Isipingo and tons of counterfeit items of well-known clothing brands worth approximately R400 million were recovered," Netshiunda said.
