The General Council of the Bar says it condemns the personal attacks and threats against High Court judge, Thokozile Masipa.
She jailed paralympian Oscar Pistorius for five years this week, after convicting him on a charge of culpable homicide in the shooting death of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
There was widespread criticism over the conviction, after Masipa found Pistorius not guilty of premeditated murder.
The General Council of the Bar issued a statement on Thursday, saying that now that the matter has been concluded, the attacks on judge Masipa were unwarranted.
It said that while court decisions are not beyond criticism, there had been unfounded suggestions that Judge Masipa had been bribed.
The Bar Council also said that the insults and threats directed at her were not only offensive and inappropriate, but also served to undermine the independence of the judiciary.
Meanwhile, Pistorius' agent is seeking a meeting with the double-amputee athlete in prison in the next few days to discuss his running future.
The South Africa's Olympic committee said Pistorius was not eligible to compete for the length of his five-year prison sentence.
Agent Peet van Zyl said lawyers will meet with Pistorius in prison on Friday, after which it will become clearer when he and the athlete's longtime track coach, Ampie Louw, can talk to him about his career.
South African Olympic committee chief executive Tubby Reddy stressed yesterday that 27-year-old Pistorius could not compete for the full duration of his sentence under the body's rules, even if he was released from jail early to go under house arrest.
