Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has warned the ANC and trade unions that the Democratic Alliance could challenge the ruling alliance's power in 2019.
Speaking at a Numsa conference in Durban, Vavi said the fact that the DA had staged a protest march with some 3-thousand unemployed African youths showed that they are gaining in confidence.
Vavi reportedly blamed alliance leadership failures on a lack of political consciousness among leaders who had also become distanced from the people.
He called on leaders accused of wrongdoing within the alliance to step down rather than to bring the name of the ANC into disripute.
