COSATU declares its readiness for the national strike Wednesday

Trade union federation Cosatu says it's expecting tens of thousands of workers to join the national strike on Wednesday which coincides with World Day For Decent Work.

Cosatu's called the strike to highlight a wide-range of issues but primarily the focus will be on job losses.

National spokesperson, Sizwe Pamla, says Cosatu wants an urgent special summit to be called in a bid to stem the tide.

Other social issues include proper road infrastructure and public transport and the state of public health among other issues.

"if we do fail to actually keep up with the demands the government should realise that people have run out of patience, they are not prepared to wait anymore and there are people who can't wait  to see that kind of impatience fill out the streets. So we are sending a warning to both big businesses and government to say that this is unsustainable and it also intolerable"- he said.

Meanwhile, Cosatu in the Eastern Cape will hold marches, pickets and demonstrations in Port Elizabeth and East London.

Earlier this week Cosatu released it's programme of action in all the provinces but until yesterday the Eastern Cape programme had not been confirmed.

However, Pamla told Algoa FM News that preparations in the province are on track.

" We met with the Province yesterday they have informed us that the process of mobilisation is still ongoing they are going to each and every work place, they are going to affiliate in their briefing and they are distributing pamphlets, So we are hopeful that we will have a very successful march and demonstration in the province of the Eastern Cape"- he said.

Pamla added that Cosatu members in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape have confirmed that everything is on track for the march.
