Cosatu continues protests against e'tolls

Cosatu in Gauteng says government has not listened to the people of the province regarding e'tolls and that it will continue its protest action in opposition to the system.

Provincial secretary Dumisani Dakile told reporters in Johannesburg that the trade union federation will stage a protest on Saturday along with the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance and the National Taxi Alliance.

He said they planned to hand over a memorandum to the SA National Roads Agency Limited and added that they will also burn e-tags and e-toll bills sent to motorists.

"The reality is that our country still lacks behind with the provision of the public transport system. We have the commuter transport system which is very expensive, unsafe, and unreliable. Our members and the public at large are daily being subjected to this system which makes them to arrive late at work and in many instances being killed in the process," he said.

Dakile accused Sanral of "abusing" more than R20bn on upgrading the province's highways without consulting its citizens.
