Cops arrested in Westbury for allegedly working with drug lords

Police in Johannesburg have arrested two of their colleagues for allegedly working in cohorts with gangsters and drug lords
The 45-year-old Warrant Officer Wynand Steyn and the 42-year-old Sergeant Tom Keet, both stationed at Sophiatown police station, have been charged with murder and defeating the ends of justice.
The Community of Westbury, Johannesburg was up in arms earlier this month and was protesting about the gang activity and drug lords in the area.

In July a 21-year-old man, Bradley Saul was gunned down while walking in Westbury. The officers, who arrived first on the scene, are accused of concealing crucial evidence.
National police Spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo says the State will oppose any efforts by the accused to apply for bail.

Four people have already appeared in court in connection with Sauls murder and the arrests of the officers and another suspect bring the total to seven.

The 73-year-old Taiton Palmer, 37-year-old Desmond Oliphant, 34-year-old Keenan Ebrahim and the 25-year-old Dennis Oliphant have already appeared on a charge of murder.
They will remain in custody and appear again on the 18th of October.

Police Minister Bheki Cele deployed a TRT team consisting of more than 130 members who were tasked to find prima facie evidence to enable arrests.
Cele welcomed the arrests and thanked the community.
The officers will appear in court soon.
