The Congress of the People said it welcomed the departure of North West Premier, Supra Muhamapelo, who announced his resignation on Tuesday night.
In a statement Cope called on the ANC to appoint men and women of integrity into positions of power and who will put the country first.
“Mahumapelo overstayed his welcome. Mahumapelo and his gang of looters have caused misery and destruction in North West that he and the ANC must take full responsibility for the mess,” Cope’s Glacier Nkwatshu said.
He said it is important for the people of North West to elect carefully at polls, so they do not find themselves stuck with people only concerned about themselves and lining their pockets instead of delivering services to them.
The ANC in North West reportedly said that it accepted Mahumapelo’s resignation “with pride”.
Mahumapelo’s resignation on Tuesday comes after his province was plunged into a crisis through a near two-month long strike, violent community protests and a looming motion of no confidence from the EFF.
