The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a case of murder after a 42-year-old Eldorado Park police officer allegedly killed his 22-year-old girlfriend in the early hours of Boxing Day.
Police spokesperson Lizzy Suping says the officer allegedly fired several shots at his girlfriend through the window at her residence in Eldorado Park, following a domestic dispute.
“After the incident, the accused officer fled the scene,” Suping said in a statement.
“As he was about to be arrested during the day, he allegedly shot at himself.
“He is in hospital under police guard.”
She said IPID has reconstructed the crime scene and that the officer, who is facing a murder charge, is expected to appear in court on Monday, 30 December 2024.
