The Ministry of Correctional Services and the Parole Review Board confirmed that it overturned the decision to place convicted child murderer Marius van der Westhuizen on parole.
This followed the referral of the matter to the Review Board in terms of section 75(8) of the Correctional Services Act.
Van der Westhuizen's ex-wife has also expressed fear, stating that she was scared of him.
Van der Westhuizen, a former police officer, was convicted of the murder of his three minor children, 16-year-old Bianca who was disabled, eight-year-old Marius, and 21-month-old Antoinette, in July 2006.
Bianca was from a previous marriage while the two younger children were from his marriage with his ex-wife.
In a statement, the ministry said van der Westhuizen served 13 years of his 24-year sentence and was meant to be released on Parole on the 31st of July.
Correctional Services minister Dr Pieter Groenewald welcomed the decision and said they are committed to reviewing and renewing the parole system to protect the most vulnerable people in society.
