Comair strike averted

A potential wage strike by ground staff at British Airways and kulula has been averted following talks on Thursday at the CCMA.

Comair said that it has been working hard with metal workers union Numsa under the guidance of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration, to find an agreement on the way forward.

"While Comair respects the right of employees to strike, we are pleased that we have made sufficient progress on outstanding matters," said Executive Director, Wrenelle Stander.

The next meeting between the parties at the CCMA is scheduled for 11 January where Numsa's demand for a 12% salary increases will be discussed.

"We are delighted that our customers' travel plans will not be inconvenienced over the festive season," Stander said.

Numsa was not available for comment at the time of writing.
