Police have seized cocaine worth an estimated R151 million from a container in the port of Durban.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the find was made on Monday when officers monitored a container arriving from Brazil.
She said on inspection officers found 433 blocks of cocaine concealed in meat boxes at the port’s cold storage facility.
Mathe said no arrests were made and the Hawks have taken over the investigation.
She said this was the third big drug find in two months at Durban harbour, with the same multi-disciplinary team making its last seizure of cocaine worth R150 million in October.
Earlier that month police seized coke worth an estimated R70 million.
Meanwhile, Mathe said the National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Fannie Masemola met with his Brazilian counterpart, Andrei Passos Rodrigues on the sidelines of the Interpol annual general meeting in Vienna this past week.
She said Masemola discussed the influx of drugs into South Africa from Brazilian ports and a decision was taken to enhance the level of cooperation between the two countries to counter international crime syndicates.
