There are currently 7.9 million unemployed people in South Africa.
Statistics South Africa issued the results of its Quarterly Labour Force Survey on Tuesday which revealed that this number was actually 60-thousand down on the number of unemployed people in the country in the previous quarter.
The official unemployment rate was 34.5% in the first quarter of 2022, down from a record high of 35.3% in the previous quarter.
Stats SA says the numbers indicate that 370 000 jobs were actually gained between the fourth quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022.
The biggest job gains were recorded in Community and Social Services, Manufacturing and Trade.
However, there were job losses in Private households, Finance, Construction and Agriculture.
