A suspect has been shot dead and a police officer injured following a Cash-in-Transit robbery in Springs.
National Police Spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says late on Wednesday afternoon armed suspects forced a cash van to come to a halt before the guards were disarmed.
She says the vehicle was blown up and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.
Brigadier Mathe says Gauteng police immediately mobilised maximum resources and traced the suspects about three hours later on the M1 South.
She says a shoot-out ensued with the suspects who were travelling in a Toyota Quantum.
One was killed and two arrested while a police officer was injured.
Police confiscated three rifles, two empty cash bags and implements used in armed robberies.
A manhunt has been launched for the remaining suspects.
