Three children had a lucky escape when an out of control vehicle crashed through the roof of their family home in Newlands in Durban.
Netcare 911 said Friday that its paramedics and other services responded to a collision in Riverdene Drive.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the vehicle failed to stop at a T-junction, crashed through a boundary wall and then smashed through the roof of a house. Exact detail to the cause of the incident will remain a subject for police comment,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.
He said paramedics and the Netcare 911 rescue officer arrived at the scene and found that the crumpled remains of the car had come to rest in a spare room of the house with the driver still trapped in the wreckage.
“Three children were in the house at the time but fortunately were in the Main bedroom adjacent to the spare room,” he said.
“The Netcare 911 rescue officer used the Jaws of Life to remove the roof of the car so that they could free the forty-five-year-old female from the twisted metal. Paramedics had to clamber over rubble with their equipment to get to the patient before she could be stabilised,” Botha said.
“After the patient was extricated from the vehicle, they transported her to a nearby hospital for the care that she required. Nobody else was injured in this accident,” he said.
