Child labour practices have decreased, except in the subsistence farming sector, where more action is needed.
So says Virgil Seafield, employment standards director at the Labour Department.
He says a 2011 survey done with Stats SA, showed approximately 235,000 of the country's 16-million children between 5 and 17 years, were involved in child labour.
Seafield says in order to address child labour; poverty and lack of education must be addressed first.
