Gauteng police arrested four people after seizing a large consignment of chemicals used to manufacture drugs on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said the bust was made by a multi-disciplinary team including Gauteng Flying Squad, Highway Patrol, K9 units, and SARS customs officers who were acting on a tip-off.
She said a truck transporting the chemicals was spotted leaving the City Deep Port of Entry towards Midrand, when the team stopped and searched the truck, discovering the chemicals.
Nevhulwi said the preliminary investigation led the team to a storage facility where the chemicals were going to be offloaded.
She said five more storage units, belonging to one person, were also found with chemicals used to produce drugs as well as few accessories possibly used in a drug lab were also found.
The Hawks will take over the investigation.
