A group of 80 people suffered apparent food poisoning on Tuesday afternoon at a resort near Ventersburg in the Free State.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, received the emergency call and immediately responded to the scene.
ER24's Russel Meiring says that when they arrived at the resort they were ushered to a conference room where they found the patients vomiting and complaining of severe abdominal pain.
A provincial doctor was flown in to assist the paramedics in treating the patients.
Meiring says 18 people were transported to Bongani and Katleho Hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the food poisoning is being investigated.
