Case against Springs "monster" postponed

A man accused of abusing his wife and five children and holding them captive made a brief appearance in the Springs Magistrate's Court this morning. He remains in custody.

The matter was postponed to the 25th of July after the director of public prosecutions Gcobani Lungu asked for more information regarding the investigation.

The 36-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his family, was arrested last month after allegedly assaulting his wife and five children and keeping them captive for several years.

He faces charges of child abuse, rape, assault, and defeating the ends of justice.

Last week, the man was rushed to hospital after he tried to slit his wrists.
