Case against former tennis ace Bob Hewitt postponed

Sentencing proceedings against former Grand Slam tennis champion Bob Hewitt have been postponed in the North Gauteng High Court.

Hewitt was found guilty last month of raping two former tennis students Suellen Sheehan and Theresa Tolken and also of sexually assaulting a third woman in the 1990's.

The matter was postponed on Friday to May 18 after Hewitt's counsel, advocate Terry Price, told the court that criminologist Dap Louw needed the court's record to complete his report.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Velekhaya Mgobhozi.

"The defence actually brought the application to have the matter adjourned.  The National Prosecuting Authority was ready to have the matter concluded today," he said.

However, Mgobhozi said Judge Bert Bam "agreed with the defence" that the matter should be adjourned for this purpose.
