A cargo vessel ironically called 'Corona' is in quarantine at the Port of Cape Town after crew members showed symptoms of Covid-19.
The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has confirmed that two vessels in the Port of Cape Town are being held off port limits.
The Corona crew member was on a flight with a fellow crew member from Instanbul and six other passengers who went onboard a cruise vessel, MV AIDAmira which is also now under quarantine.
TNPA, however, says that no passengers or crew on the cruise ship are showing any symptoms.
The MV Corona left the Port of Cape Town on Wednesday the 11th of March but two days later, the Master of the vessel contacted officials to inform them that a crew member was showing symptoms.
He made a request for the vessel to return to the Port and the crew member was evacuated with an Airforce helicopter.
So far only one of the two crew members on-board the MV CORONA has shown symptoms of being sick and no passengers or crew onboard MV AIDAmira are exhibiting any symptoms.
Transnet National Ports Authority is responsible for ensuring that all vessels have been cleared by relevant state organs namely, Port Health, Migration, MRCC and customs before entering or leaving the Port.
