A 56-year-old man appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court on Thursday in connection with the deaths this week of five children in a horror accident in Cape Town.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Mninikhaya Mvuli was charged with five counts of culpable homicide and a count of reckless driving.
NPA spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, said the learner transport driver was arrested after Tuesday morning's accident.
He said the learners were being taken in his bakkie to various schools around the Mitchells Plain area.
"Mvuli told the court that he intends to apply for bail, and his case has been postponed until next Monday, 5 June 2023, for a bail application date. The state will oppose his bail application," Ntabazalila said.
