A 38-year old Cape Town man has been arrested, after allegedly stabbing his two-year-old niece to death in Philippi.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer November Filander says the girl was left in the care of her 12-year-old sister, while their mother attended a funeral.
He says the uncle, who also resides on the same yard, then sent the 12-year-old girl to the shop, while her sister was asleep.
Filander says the mother later found the toddler's body wrapped in a blanket under a bed.
He says contrary to earlier reports, investigations indicate that the deceased was not raped, and that the cause of death was due to stabbing.
