CAPE TOWN, (ANA) – An 8-year-old boy died after the Western Cape Government Health Emergency Medical Service ambulance he was being transported in was ambushed on the N2 near Borcherd’s Quarry whilst on their way to Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
The medical crew was held at gunpoint and robbed, leaving the ambulance stranded.
The critically injured boy who sustained severe head injuries during a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday evening died due to the delay caused by the attack on the EMS personnel.
Emergency Medical & Forensic Pathology Services provincial spokesperson, Robert Daniels said: “The ambulance personnel were threatened with firearms and robbed and their vehicle disabled.”
The incident occurred around 1 am on Wednesday morning.
