A Cape Town gang member has been jailed for life for fatally wounded a 10-year-old boy who was caught in the crossfire of a shooting incident in Parkwood.
On Tuesday, the Western Cape High Court sentenced gangster Christopher Kemp, of the Mongrel gang for the shooting in September 2020.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile welcomed the sentence and commended the investigating officer and the prosecuting team.
Police said Kemp had approached a group of people affiliated with the Six Bob Gang and fired numerous shots. The 10-year-old boy was killed in the process.
“The murder came as a result of tensions between the two gangs involving territory and the sale of drugs.
“After an extensive investigation, eyewitnesses were identified whose testimonies were aligned to those of the victims who survived this onslaught on their lives,” said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.
