The South African Communist Party and family of slain anti-apartheid activist Chris Hani, are calling for a thorough inquest into the assassination of Chris Hani and urge the state to act with urgency.
This follows an interview with Chris Hani's murderer Janusz Walus, which was aired on Sunday on eNCA, following his deportation last December after he was released from prison on parole.
In the interview, he said he had acted alone and though it didn't feel good, he would do it again for the country.
Hani was shot dead on 10 April outside of his home.
"White people can run the country and it has been proven that black people cannot. They haven't got the capacity to do so," he said in the interview.
Quizzed on whether he has any regrets he responded with the following: "I have regrets of taking the life of a father and husband away. But, when it comes to the political side, I haven't got regrets."
The SACP and Hani family say they feel Walus remains unremorseful and that the interview underscored his deeply entrenched racism, white supremacist ideology, as well as the malicious agenda of the apartheid regime to sow division among the black majority and turn them against each other.
"His open declaration that he would assassinate Chris Hani again under similar circumstances demonstrates his complete lack of regret and exposes the flawed assertion of his supposed remorse," the SACP said in a statement.
During the interview, Walus further admitted to there being a hitlist, which comprised the names of Nelson Mandela, Marc Maharaj, and Joe Slovo- among others.
He further said he could not remember the exact details of the day he killed Hani but recalled that they made eye contact.
