A technical fault with a computer at one of the work stations at the 10111 centre in Schauderville has led to the temporary closure of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro's 10111 centre.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says shortly before 6pm on Thursday, personnel at the centre noticed smoke emitting from one of the computers and immediately doused it with a fire extinguisher.
Colonel Naidu stressed that there was NO fire but that the fire department was summoned as a precaution.
As the computers are interlinked, the call centre has been closed as a precautionary safety measure until the cause of the problem can be determined.
Communities are asked to contact their nearest local police station for emergency response until further notice.
