The National Prosecuting Authority said the state would oppose an application for leave to appeal by a convicted killer, Xander Bylsma, who was jailed for killing his ex-girlfriend and her friend in 2018.
Bylsma was sentenced to two terms of life terms in August by Judge Ronald Hendricks for strangling and hanging 17-year-old Sharnell Hough and strangling her 16-year-old friend, Marna Engelbrecht, who was said to be his relative.
Their bodies were discovered on 26 May 2018, at the hostel of Hoërskool Stella in Mahikeng where they both attended.
Bylsma was handed over to authorities on the same day while in the company of a private investigator and was charged at the Vryburg police station.
The NPA said evidence presented in court by the state indicated that the murder was premeditated and driven by malice.
