Busy week of debates for Parliamentary Committees


Policy debates on budget votes and Committee reports are top of the agenda of the National Council of Province's plenary sittings this week.

Parliamentary spokesperson, Molotho Mothapo, said that 32 Committee meetings scheduled to sit to consider a host reports after the National Assembly held its last plenary for the term last week.

“Only its Committees will meet for the rest of the term,” Mothapo said.

He said the three plenary sessions of the National Council Of Provinces scheduled for this week will continue with policy debates on several Budget Votes that include the Departments of Transport,  Arts and Culture and Sports and Recreation.

Other debates will be on the budget votes of the Departments of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries,  Rural Development and Land Reform as well as Mineral Resources and Human Settlements.

Mothapo said that in addition to budget votes, Tuesday’s plenary is also scheduled to consider a Report of the Select Committee on Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs on the Notice of Intervention issued in terms of section 139(1)(b) of the Constitution, 1996 to Inkosi Langalibalele and Mpofana Local Municipalities.

The NA’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) will meet on Tuesday to hold hearings on the National Treasury Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).

The NCOP’s Select Committee on Finance is scheduled to meet the Provincial Treasury of the Western Cape on Tuesday on their preliminary budget outcomes for to 2017/18.
