Buses set to run again from Tuesday as strike comes to an end


Buses will be running again from Tuesday after striking unions and employers reached an agreement that brought an end to the crippling four-week strike.

It was announced on Monday that the parties had agreed on the remaining sticking point regarding the issue of backpay.

Algoa Bus company in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro will be running again on Tuesday.

CEO Sicelo Duze told said that Algoa FM News that striking bus drivers had reached a wage agreement with bus transport employers whereby they'll receive a nine percent increase this year and an eight percent increase next year.

"First and foremost we want to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the bus strike," said Duze. "Now at long last, we have found each other and reached an agreement, therefore from Tuesday morning the buses will be operating in the Metro."

GO GEORGE bus service in George said it is estimated that full services will resume by no later than Thursday this week, subject to GO GEORGE receiving formal notification nationally.
