A bus driver was shot dead Friday morning while driving in Tongaat, reported Crisis Medical, which said it found the bus had veered off the road and come to a standstill with its front at the edge of a ravine.
“Crisis Medical paramedics along with other emergency services were called to the scene on the Watson Highway shortly after 6:30am to find a fully laden bus had veered off the road way coming to a rest on the embankment,” the medical response service said in a statement.
“On closer inspection it was noted the driver had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.”
Crisis Medical said reports from the scene suggest the driver came under fire from an unidentified male, who then fled the scene.
“Remarkably no passengers were harmed.”
No arrests have been made but the South African Police Services are investigating.
