Buddy, a police sniffer dog, helped thwart an attempt by two suspects to smuggle a consignment of heroin out of the country.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo said a man and a woman were arrested after they arrived at a Johannesburg logistics company on Tuesday requesting a quotation to ship a parcel to Greece.
Police were alerted about a possible drugs shipment and called in the K9 unit.
Masondo said police “intercepted the woman and a man and within a short space of time, Buddy was able to locate the drugs.”
He said the parcel contained 10 clothing garments with drugs, with an estimated street value of R1.4m, concealed in the accessories fitted onto the garments.
The pair are due to appear in court soon.
