The Police Ministry said a British national was among five people killed in violence that marred the strike by members of the SA National Taxi Council in Cape Town.
The 40-year-old male doctor was shot and killed in Ntlangano Crescent in Nyanga on Thursday.
Ministry spokesperson, Lirandzu Themba, said the Doctor was driving with two other people in the vehicle from the airport when they apparently took a wrong turn and headed towards Nyanga.
“In Ntlangano Crescent a number of suspects approached his vehicle, and shot and killed him,” Themba said.
No further details were provided and no arrests were made in this incident.
Meanwhile, the SAPS statement said a Cape Town law enforcement officer was killed on duty on Friday night, while the bodies of three unidentified males were found in Emfuleni, Nyanga, and on Airport Approach Road on Monday.
Police Minister Bheki Cele said 120 people were arrested on various charges including public violence, malicious damage to property, and looting.
He said the SAPS remains on high alert in Cape Town, making a “clarion call” to striking taxi operators to explore all avenues of negotiation to end the impasse with the City of Cape Town and provincial authorities.
