BRICS countries need to create common news platform, BRICS Media Forum hears

CAPE TOWN, July  (ANA) - BRICS Countries need to create a common news platform that will focus on the BRICS agenda and the national agenda of the five countries, the BRICS Media Forum heard on Thursday.

This is according to Sputnik deputy editor in chief Dimitri Gornostaev who was speaking at the BRICS Media Forum taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Thursday.

"BRICS countries ( Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) lack common positive agenda and this platform can create the basis for having this common agenda, this multiracial agenda which will have some positive and some negative news," he said.

"We can' t deny that negative is another part of our lives and negative makes us think about how to make the world positive. So we will be telling the truth, we will be very balanced and very thoughtful, but to be thoughtful means to talk not only about those things that are bringing the clicks to your publication but thoughts that are important in order to understand how close we work and what we can do together, what are the problems we have, and how to solve it."

Gornostaev added that to have a common news platform was important as it would help the BRICS countries to bring their common agenda to the world and also show the world that BRICS countries were not just separate five big countries which sometimes got together and discussed strategies which were not being implemented.

"So I think that we can work into creating a common news platform or news channel in which the news agencies of BRICS countries can participate. I think its quite easy and not so expensive to create, so every newsroom has its newsroom system and you publish your news items and news stories out every day and minute," said Gornostaev.

He further said that BRICS countries can create technical decisions that can contribute to the common news platform that would publish all the news that is about BRICS countries.

"And I think it is possible, so I hope that the final document or the action plan will include some practical steps that were proposed during this summit, during this forum and we will not forget them when we get back home and we will start talking to each other and not only on the senior managing level but probably create the dialog between people in order to move forward."
