Breytenbach cleared at NPA disciplinary hearing

A senior prosecutor at the National Prosecution Authority, Glynnis Breytenbach, has been cleared of all 15 charges at a disciplinary hearing.

The chairperson of the disciplinary committee, Selby Mbenenge, says the charges against her could not be established.

A core charge against Breytenbach included failing to act impartially when investigating the Kumba Iron Ore/Sishen and Imperial Crown Trading mining rights issue.

Breytenbach had claimed that she was suspended last April to stop her from prosecuting former police crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli on fraud and other charges.

In a statement after Monday's proceedings, Breytenbach said she intended returning to work if allowed to.

The NPA said they will study the ruling and are satisfied that the process was fair and transparent. They declined to comment any further.
