Free State police have arrested the son of a former Eastern Cape SAPS Admin Clerk whose body was found in a shallow grave.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Thandi Mbambo, said the body of 40-year-old Siziwe Gladile was discovered on Thursday at a house in Bronville in Welkom.
She said Gladile was reported missing by her brother on 31 March.
Mbambo said Sergeants Israel Tshehlana and Matlala Matlala conducted a preliminary investigation by visiting the victim's house.
“On arrival, they noticed that the window panes were broken and there were bloodstains on the ground next to the house leading to the shack at the back.”
She said SAPS members followed the blood trail and saw loose soil in the shack.
“They noticed a human toe protruding from the sand as they tried to dig inside the shack. Relevant stakeholders were alerted and the body was dug out in the morning of the 1 April,” Mbambo said.
She said further investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of the 21-year-old son of the deceased.
“A case of murder has been registered for further investigation. The suspect will appear at Welkom Magistrate court on Tuesday,” Mbambo said.
