Bags of mandrax found on Intercape bus destined for Plett

Police in the Free State have confiscated five big travelling bags filled with Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R2 460 000.

Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane says the bags were found on an Intercape Bus travelling between Pretoria and Plettenberg Bay.

When the bus stopped at the Tourism Centre in Bloemfontein on Monday night, a staff member became suspicious about the content of the bags, due to the fact that the luggage was not tagged.

Police were alerted and on arrival inspected the bags where they found Mandrax tablets packed into translucent bags.

Covane says each bag had about 500 tablets inside.

Police seized the drugs but did not arrest anybody.

An investigation has now been launched to determine the origin and final destination of the drugs.
