The mother of one-month old baby Siwaphiwe Mbambo will be facing a charge of fraud but will not face a charge of kidnapping.
Thirty-five-year-old S'bongile Mbambo and her co-accused, Phumlani Mbokazi, were granted bail of R1000 in a KZN court on Wednesday.
They will reportedly also face charges of wasting police resources and defeating the ends of justice.
Mbambo, a married teacher and Mbokazi, will be back in court again on 9 May.
They are accused of misleading authorities into believing that the baby had been kidnapped during a hijacking at a Durban shopping centre last week.
They were arrested at Marianhill toll plaza over the weekend along with another woman who is not being charged.
A DNA test to determine the identity of the child's father is reportedly no longer required after the kidnapping charge was dropped.
