Two years after a farmer and one of the attackers were killed during a farm attack, a suspect was e linked to the incident through his DNA.
Captain Stephen Thakeng said investigators found that the 45-year-old Khulekani Mthethwa was awaiting trial on a business robbery case in Odendaalsrus and was in detention since 2021
He was wanted in connection with the murder of 50-year-old farmer, Mark Regal, who was shot dead on his father’s farm when two assailants struck on 11 November 2020.
“One of the attackers was shot and died at the scene,” Thakeng said.
He said a case of murder was registered for further investigation and taken over by Lieutenant Colonel James Mahlatsi of Provincial Organized Crime who eventually identified and linked him to the murder scene through DNA.
Thakeng said the case against Mthethwa was postponed until 2 June for bail application.
