Authorities to seize property used as suspected drug lab

File

The Asset Forfeiture Unit in KwaZulu-Natal has obtained a preservation order for a multi-million rand property suspected to have been used as a drug laboratory.

The National Prosecuting Authority said the order in Durban High Court was for a warehouse in Riverhorse Valley in Durban valued at R29.7 million.

Spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the property was seized “on the basis that it was instrumental in the commission of the offence of manufacturing and dealing drugs.”

She said Hawks officers raided the property in March following a tip-off.

“Various drug manufacturing paraphernalia as well as large amounts of chemicals and waste materials or sludge were found on the property.

“The property was used to facilitate or make possible the manufacture of drugs,” Ramkisson-Kara said.

She said the property will remain in the custody of the curator pending a forfeiture application while a criminal investigation is also underway.
