Authorities are trying to find the establish the cause of a fire that broke out at a Stellenbosch University's women's residence.
Residents of Huis ten Bosch had to evacuate the building when a fire broke out on Monday night.
The residence is home to more than 164 female students.
The institution promised to find alternative accommodation for the women and also plans to offer counselling.
The fire was brought under control quickly and only one of the residents had to be treated for burn wounds.
Stellenbosch municipality spokesperson Stuart Grobbelaar says the cause of the fire is not yet known.
He says eight vehicles were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 pm and the fire extinguished two hours later.
