At least nine ANC members were killed in a horror bus accident on the R33 between Vryheid and Paulpietersburg in Kwazulu Natal.
They were returning home from the party’s manifesto launch in Durban were believed to be travelling to Limpopo.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the injured passengers were taken to various hospitals in the area for medical treatment.
She said eight people were initially reported to have died, but another person succumbed to their injuries later.
The ANC's spokesperson in KZN, Mafika Mndebele, says 10 people are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the Transport Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga, told ENCA that they received the news at around 5 AM on Sunday.
She said officials from the Road Traffic Management Corporation will be dispatched to investigate the cause of the accident.
The Minister also extended a message of condolence to families of the deceased, and those injured a speedy recovery.
