South African anti-apartheid stalwart Andrew Mlangeni has died at the age of 95.
He was the last surviving member of a group of political activists including Nelson Mandela who was tried, convicted and jailed for sabotage.
The Presidency says in a statement that President Cyril Ramaphosa had learnt with deep sadness of the passing away overnight of the last remaining Rivonia Trialist Andrew Mekete Mlangeni who was jailed for more than 20 years on Robben Island.
At Mlangeni's birthday celebration last month, Ramaphosa said the struggle veteran had in his later years been the "conscience" of the ANC and had not hesitated to speak out when necessary.
In 1992 Mlangeni was awarded the highest honour given by the ANC to those who made an outstanding contribution to South Africa's struggle against racist apartheid rule.
He received the Presidential Order for Meritorious Service from then-President Mandela in 1999.
